The CVSA International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 13–15 and if you’ve been through one before, you know it’s no joke. For 72 hours, inspectors across North America will be out in full force, checking commercial vehicles for safety violations—and handing out fines or putting trucks out of service for violations that could’ve been avoided.
What’s the focus this year?
Each year, the CVSA puts extra attention on a few specific things during the inspection. While they’ll still be checking everything from brakes to lights to paperwork, they usually zero in on certain areas—like wheel ends, brake systems, or cargo securement. This year’s focus will concentrate on two key areas:
- Driver Focus: Compliance with Hours-of-Service (HOS) regulations, emphasizing the drivers’ Records of Duty Status (RODS)
- Vehicle Focus: Tire safety, including checks for tread depth, proper inflation, and any sign of damage or improper repairs
Bottom line? You don’t want to be caught off guard.
Don’t Let a Small Fix Cost You Big
Most of the violations inspectors find are for things that could’ve been caught during a routine maintenance check—worn tires, faulty brake lights, loose parts, that sort of thing. These small fixes can turn into fines, or even result in having your truck pulled from the road–which means unexpected downtime.
That’s where McMahon Truck Centers comes in. Whether you’ve got one truck or a whole fleet, our service team can give your rig a once-over and flag anything that might get you in trouble during the inspection blitz.
