Increasingly, fleets and owner/operators in Tennessee are choosing option three. Jeff Tilley, General Manager of McMahon Truck Centers in Nashville explained why. The Nashville McMahon Truck Center began offering mobile repair and maintenance in mid-2020 for practical reasons. The Nashville McMahon Truck Center’s area of responsibility is huge: from Bowling Green, Kentucky to the Alabama state line, and from Cookeville, Tennessee to the Tennessee River. Driving time across their AOR is four hours east to west and four hours north to south. To best serve their customers, it made sense for McMahon to bring the repair shop to them.

Tilley said they talked with McMahon’s customers first, to see if they’d be interested in a mobile truck repair service. McMahon planned the mobile repair as a partnership with regular customers, to help them build efficiency. The mobile service trucks go to business locations rather than offering roadside repairs.
The simplified billing includes no call out fees or mileage charges, just one hour of labor no matter the distance. The certified McMahon technicians service all makes and models. And the mobile repair trucks include a crane, so the service is able to offer a wide range of repairs and preventive maintenance, including the AC work other mobile services often don’t offer.
Tilley said McMahon’s technicians are known for their excellent diagnostic work, to the point that fleets that have their own shops request McMahon mobile service just for diagnostics and parts delivery, handling the actual repair themselves.
The Nashville McMahon Truck Center has nine parts delivery vans—and a first-time fill rate of over 90%—so parts delivery integrates seamlessly into the mobile repair process. Tilley says for most of the mobile truck services, the field tech does the diagnostics on the first visit. Then any needed parts are delivered the next morning, so are there when the tech returns to do the repair or preventative maintenance that day.
