Power Up for Cold Weather. Check & Replace Your Truck Batteries Now!

Sep 18, 2024 | McMahon Truck Centers Lawrenceburg, McMahon Truck Centers Nashville

Why do so many fleets stock up on truck batteries in the fall? Because no one wants to end up stranded out in the cold during the battery-challenging months ahead. Plus, your truck’s entire electrical system needs a stable voltage supply…from the GPS to safety features to seat warmers and cab climate control.

Don’t let low-performing batteries put you or your truck’s productivity and performance at risk. Take a few simple steps:

  • Look for the common battery-issue warning signs listed below.
  • Have McMahon Truck Centers test your batteries to make sure they’ll carry you through cold weather.
  • Stock up on new semi batteries with our truck battery special!

How To Tell if You Need New Truck Batteries

Get a jump on battery issues, before you need a jump start. Follow up on any dashboard warning, of course, but also notice these signs:

  • Engine cranks slowly or you hear a clicking sound when starting. Cold weather makes engine oil thicker, and batteries work harder – so any truck battery issues will become more noticeable during cold-weather starts.
  • Low lights. Start your engine, turn on your truck’s headlights, and rev the engine. If your headlights’ brightness changes, that means your battery isn’t provide a strong enough current when the engine is idling.
  • Swollen battery case. This can be the result of excessive heat, overcharging, or internal damage, and can be dangerous. Get a repair or replacement right away.
  • Battery fluid leak or a rotten smell. Don’t touch the battery (in case of acid leak) and don’t keep driving with this.
  • Old age. Commercial truck batteries tend to last between three and five years. Regular maintenance will make sure you get the most out of your batteries.
  • Frequent jump starts. Your battery is on the way out. Be glad we have a truck battery special.
  • If you’ve replaced one battery. Replace all of a truck’s batteries at once or the older batteries will drag down the performance of newer ones.

Some of these warning signs could be due to other issues (such as alternator problems, loose or corroded connections, or too many accessories in use). McMahon Truck Centers can help you get to the root of the issue, so you know your best next steps.
