McMahon Truck Centers in Louisville, Kentucky, is a Certified Uptime Dealer for both Mack and Volvo Trucks – the only one in our region. What does that mean for you?
In short, it means you don’t have to wait multiple days for a repair that only takes hours. And all repairs are handled expertly and efficiently by OEM-trained pros, meeting rigorous standards. Which means your bottom line gets a boost because your truck gets back on the road sooner. Here’s how.
Service Check-in – Get the Information You Need
- No appointment needed. Drive right in.
- Your service advisor conducts a walk-around and accesses your vehicle’s data.
- We communicate with you all the way through, so you can make plans for your truck, driver, and load. “Within two hours, you should have enough information to make a decision: am I going to be done today or is it going to be down for two or three days? That’s the goal, to get the customer the information so they can make a decision about their next few days or next few hours of their life,” said Calvin Myers, Service Manager, McMahon Truck Centers – Louisville.
- McMahon partners with the Mack/Volvo Uptime Center and accesses all their integrated communications capabilities. As a result, you get faster diagnostics and streamlined repairs. “They literally call us every hour to two hours to check status on that truck and be kept in the loop during that repair. As a Certified Uptime Center, we have to answer to them and to the customer, and we have to communicate as often and as clearly as possible,” said Myers.
- You’ll have the option of using Mack and Volvo ASIST direct messaging, to receive status alerts and save time on approvals.
Uptime Bay – No Waiting Behind Slower Repairs
- Our shop layouts have a dedicated Uptime Bay that streamlines repairs of four hours or less. “The commitment from us to Mack and Volvo is that anything that is under four hours start to finish, we are supposed to do our level best to get it out in 24 hours,” said Myers.
- If the repair is under two hours, the truck is under warranty, and McMahon has the parts, the truck will pull directly into the next bay and repairs start.
- No matter which brand of truck you bring to McMahon Truck Centers for service, your truck gets the benefit of the Uptime Bay for shorter repairs.
- You’ll have the option of using Mack and Volvo ASIST direct messaging, to receive status alerts and save time on approvals.
Advanced Diagnostics – Our Tools & Techs Streamline Complex Repairs
- Trucks needing more than 45 minutes of diagnostic time transition to the advanced diagnostics area.
- Longer diagnostics don’t back up the Uptime Bay.
- Mack/Volvo ASIST helps streamline your truck’s repair by keeping all communication in one place, including status alerts and approvals.
- The tech training and tooling McMahon maintains as a Certified Uptime Dealer equip us to efficiently handle tough repairs.
Master Technicians – OEM-Trained Techs Get the Job Done Right
Every Certified Uptime Dealer meets the rigorous standards of service and support you expect from Mack and Volvo Trucks. So, people who have been thoroughly trained on your type of truck are fixing your truck. “Everyone who works under our roof or on the mobile trucks has to be working toward Master Tech certification.” said Myers.
Volvo/Mack requires that at least half of McMahon’s techs be Master Technicians at all times. “There are several hours of online training our techs have to do that is created by Mack/Volvo. Once they’ve reached a certain level in their online training, then they have to go to one of the training centers that Mack/Volvo has around the country and do hands-on training. The training is instructor led. The classes range from one day all the way up to five days (the engine overhaul class),” said Myers.
It takes a year to five years to become Master Technician Certified. McMahon invests a great deal in our technician training, including travel time, motels, and time out of the shop. You get the benefit of that.
“The team that we have here…everyone here is passionate about what they do. That’s the energy we have. Others are trying to duplicate it. I’m blessed that we are in a position to run with it,” said Jon Clary, General Manager, McMahon Truck Centers – Louisville.
“I don’t think the general population understands what is involved in our service…what we invest in our people, our tooling, the tools it takes to work on these trucks that are OEM specific,” said Clary. “Look at what it costs to train our technicians and the tooling and the quality of people we have to hire to train. Not everybody can do it. Technician is a tough job, from the electronics to the hard work underneath the truck.”
